Seven letters, typed transcriptions of the letters, newspaper clippings and copies of same. Originally all items were bound into scrapbook of R.H. Halsted, to whom all of the letters were addressed. Of special note is the letter of Sept. 6, 1897, which describes in detail the accident which wounded Edmonds and nearly forced her to abandon her charade.

Born in 1841 in New Brunswick, then a British colony, Edmonds grew up with her sisters on their family's farm near Magaguadavic Lake, not far from the border with the State of Maine. Edmonds fled home at age fifteen to escape an arranged marriage and the abuse of her father, who wanted a son instead of a daughter.
